The
Regional Demonstration and Training Centre for the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is a small complex located in Jalandhar where trainees from surrounding areas attend short term courses and demonstrations related to dairy farming. The complex is located within the campus of the local milk processing plant and the distribution centre, also run by the NDDB. |

The
facilities required being fairly modest, the architects decided on a simple
expression in exposed brickwork covering all external areas including
corridors and courtyards. All openings to the outside are protected by
a system of flanking brick piers and overhangs while smaller openings
to toilets and adjoining drying courts are in the form of decorative grilles
in the brickwork itself. All lintels and beams are covered in brick tile
providing a uniform surface on the entire exterior punctuated only by
a system of concrete scuppers to throw off rain water.

The climate of the area is basically dry with cold winters and extremely
hot summers. It is customary in the summer months to sleep out in the open
and the floor terrace effectively serves this purpose. Two staircases project
into the courtyard providing a strong vertical element connecting two floors. |
