Trident Hotel
Cochin, India |

Built on a two-acre landlocked site on Wellington Island in Cochin, this 200 room hotel has been designed as an inward looking complex with all the guestrooms arranged around a central garden court. Because of its proximity to the Naval Airport, a height restriction permitted the construction of ground plus two floors only. | ||

The design of the building is inspired by the local forms of Kerala Architecture, which is characterized bythe ubiquitous Mangalore tiled sloping roofs. The central building which houses the Entrance Lobby, the Bar and the Restaurant is surmounted by a higher sloping roof providing generous heights for all the major public spaces. Adjoining this is the three-story guest room complex wrapping around the central garden court. |

The court itself is divided into two parts, one containing the swimming pool and the other a lush planted tropical garden. In keeping with climatic requirements as well as to provide comfort conditions during the extensive monsoon period wide verandahs flank the public areas providing sheltered spaces as well as transparency towards the garden areas at ground level. |
